Your child’s art portfolio (folder of art) and clay projects are being sent home this spring. Many teachers will have art portfolios out in the homeroom the night of Open House (May 25, 2023) and most clay projects were sent home the week of May 8. Your child may have even given some clay projects to special people in their lives as gifts. Other art projects have been displayed throughout the year in the classroom and may have already been sent home. You can see more on Seesaw as well! Highlights to look for include:
3D *clay owl (Kinder-2nd) *clay coil pot (3rd-5th) *sunshine project (beaded necklace or keychain, all grades) *one other clay project (pinch pots K-2 & slabwork 3-5) 2D *paintings (warm & cool colors) *bingo brush work (black ink) on the portfolio and to create a leaf painting *fiber arts work (knots, braids & twisted yarn) *collaborative collage in the classroom Sketchbooks will be sent home the last week of school in June. Heads up that all clay projects will go home soon! Parents if you'd like to help with this process in art class (wrapping clay & fiber arts assistance to kids) sign up here https://www.parentsquare.com/feeds/20100776 Leaves! Encinal artists have completed a class collage (one per class) with colorful leaves using primary colors and mixing of colors. Look at Seesaw for photos of your child’s contribution. Many are hanging up on campus, in classrooms, for all to enjoy. B-I-N-G-O! We love our new Bingo Brushes in the art room. Thank you PTO. Kids are making big art with them and respecting the medium (ink on paper). Sketchbooks. We are busy working in our notebooks after binding and personalizing them. Many are adorned with drawings of Eddie the Eagle. Special appearances by Baby Eddie as well. We love eaglets! Jensen (1st) & Siggi (2nd) painting with Bingo Brush Be sure to pick up your child's Art Portfolio while visiting the classrooms at Open House. If you'd like to learn more about what's inside your child's portfolio, please view this video "A Message from Mrs. Noon - Portfolios - May 22".
This January all Encinal artists practiced cutting paper. Paper was folded and cut. Organic and geometric shapes were formed. Shapes were repeated and overlapped. Surprises were discovered! Positive and negative shapes came together to form a collage. Henri Matisse's art and his perseverance inspired students (see Henri's Scissors by Jeannette Winter from Library and Art classes). Above is our process. We practiced cutting & learned from mistakes as we made discoveries. Later we edited, arranged and glued. Below are a few completed collages! View your child's Seesaw art journal online to see more. Row 1: Kate R. (1st), Felipe (2nd), Beatrice (5th)
Row 2: Tamar (5th), Diana (5th), Kenzie (4th) All Encinal artists are now experts in the history, art and symbolism of the Statue of Liberty. Ask your child about the 7 spikes, the tablet she holds and why her foot has a broken chain and is in motion. In Library class and Art class students dived deep into this theme (see Her Right Foot by Dave Eggers) and we culminated the unit with an oil pastel mural in each class. Some are now on display on campus and all are posted on Seesaw (search for your child's art class). Enjoy a few murals below. Special thanks to "Art Projects for Kids" for the templates and the PTO for funding the materials! Row 1 (large): Mrs. Powell's 5th grade class

K-5 grade students created a self portrait, in crayon, using the color of their table and it's analogous color on the color wheel (such as red and red-orange). Below is the work of the kindergarteners who blended colors and showed their personality through their portrait! To see more, view your child's art class journal in Seesaw.
