Get ready to start inking out of the box! Click here to read all about this fun, exciting month of drawing and memorializing your travels, thoughts, dreams. Note: this is a link to University Art in Redwood City , geared more towards adults who use social media. The big idea for anyone of any age is create one drawing each day in October with pen, ink, or a skinny marker (you can draw lightly with pencil first) and share it with someone. You can hang it up at home, take a picture of it and add it to Encinal's Eagle Padlet or take photos and upload them later to your Seesaw Art Class (not available yet). This is a worldwide event every October! You may use the 2020 prompts if you'd like as inspiration: Congrats to Jack S., 3rd grader in Mrs. Walton's class, and Nolan W., Kindergartener in Mrs. Cooper's class, for being selected as a winners in the Spread the Rainbow Art Contest. Safe Space in Menlo Park sponsored the contest in May for Mental Health Awareness Month, encouraging kids to create rainbow art for their neighborhood. Jack’s art is uplifting and positive; our community is grateful for compassionate artists like him! https://inmenlo.com/2020/06/01/safespace-youth-action-board-comes-together-to-spread-the-rainbow/
Thank you to 5th graders Aria, George, Henry, Isaac, Lia, Lucas M., Lucy, Lyric, Michael B., Patrick, Piper, Rotem, Sarah C., Sophia, Sophie (and the Encinal PTO) for contributing their Stanford Hospital’s Voices of the Community drawings (2018-19) to Encinal’s newest public art. Their art will be printed on a banner & yard signs. The 5th graders’ message of health, community and caring are so timely and uplifting! https://video.link/w/FZdF?src=syt <--- Click here to watch Penguins exploring an Art Museum
Humboldt penguins visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri. The museum is closed during the pandemic and the penguins miss their visitors at the Kansas City Zoo. (source NPR May 15, 2020) What type of “Clock” art is your child making in Art Class?
Time flies when you’re making art, especially while we make clock prototypes in Art Class this November. Ask your child about their clock! Kinder – Color Wheel clocks (face, hands, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) 1st & 2nd – Wristwatch (band, face, digital, analog or other) 3rd-5th – Clock Art (open-ended “time art” project) We’ve looked at sundials, hourglasses, clock towers, pendulums, pocket watches and more from all over the world and through time. We look forward to showing these creations off in the future. ~Mrs. Noon October 21-25, 2019 is "Clay Week" in Encinal's art room! This is the week we work with clay, clear the "kiln closet" to make space for new projects and have lots of parent volunteers on hand to assist and carve "name & codes" on the projects. To sign up, visit https://www.parentsquare.com/feeds/1942128 To volunteer in other ways in art, find "participate" on the left side of Parent Square and click "Groups". Please join the "Art Volunteer Group" for more updates and volunteering opportunities. Students are practicing with play dough the week before. Please click on the "Resource" tab https://encinalart.weebly.com/resources.html for the play dough recipe if your child is interested in making at home, with adult help. This link is not on Parent Square, but on the Encinal Art web site https://encinalart.weebly.com/ Clay projects this year are listed below: Kinder- pinch pots & beads (round, square or football -shaped beads?) 3rd- coil pot (will your child build a bowl, cup, vase?) 1st/2nd - one or two slab letters (what letter has your child chosen?) 5th- Claes Oldenburg food sculpture (what food or drink item will your child sculpt?) 4th- Incan block sculpture* (what will your child build with clay blocks?) *note: 4th graders can think of this as a clay lego project. Kids are building mini castles, containers, abstract sculptures, etc. Machu Picchu is our inspiration as we skip ahead to our next Cultural Arts Unit (Peru in Trimester 2). Why not build at home with legos, play dough, or blocks? What can you build with 4-12 blocks? Should they overlap or stack in different directions? There's exciting possibilities here and a good chance to practice our "score & slip" skills from 3rd grade.
