This January all Encinal artists practiced cutting paper. Paper was folded and cut. Organic and geometric shapes were formed. Shapes were repeated and overlapped. Surprises were discovered! Positive and negative shapes came together to form a collage. Henri Matisse's art and his perseverance inspired students (see Henri's Scissors by Jeannette Winter from Library and Art classes). Above is our process. We practiced cutting & learned from mistakes as we made discoveries. Later we edited, arranged and glued. Below are a few completed collages!
